Moving the Dunny
More Work….

The kitchen cupboards are well under way. The first is packed… The bedroom is almost there. At least we can use the shelves… Work in the bathroom is well under way. Hoses have been moved, the cupboard partially completed and painted… Still in the bathroom, the hand bowl was moved yesterday and backbreaking work for […]

Work continuing…

After a relaxing Christmas Day we were back at the grindstone yesterday. Rain kept us inside, but progress was still made. One quarter of the painting in the bedroom is completed, the bathroom cupboard is usable and the first of the kitchen cupboards ready for stocking.

Into the Bathroom Goes Bob

Bob commenced working on the new bathroom cupboards yesterday, whilst I continued painting the forward cabin and commenced oiling the bowsprit.

The Painting Continues

Painting is well under way. With all shut down over Christmas here, Bob interrupted the indoor painting yesterday and headed over to the sheds to cut out the wood for the bathroom and kitchen cupboards. Other happenings: Our mariner compass quilt is gradually growing, compliments of Tuesday get togethers with other craft ladies. With clear skies, […]

The Cabin is Moving Closer to Completion.

The painting should commence this weekend.

Rubbing Strakes

After 30+ years, it is time for the rubbing strakes to be replaced. Rotting in places, and bolts rusted in many cases, away came that on the port side. The new timber has been ordered, and once cut to size and shape, should soon be here. The halyards, sheets, and furling lines have been washed […]

Bob’s work continues…

Add to this a day of baking: […]

And Bob continues plodding on……

Work Has Commenced

Yesterday saw Bob commence the reshaping of the forward cabin. Out came the saw. Some hours later – a great deal of discussion regarding the best way of arranging our new bedroom took place in between times – and the transverse bunk had been removed.

Work Commences

Today saw us commencing the emptying of the forward cabin in preparation for the renovation. Pics will come. In the meantime, here are a few taken over the past few days. Main Image: Sunrise yesterday morning

Working Moving Ahead

Besides fitting in the occasional sightseeing trip, this winter will also see quite a bit of work taking place on Big G. Serious ocean crossings, and the Canal Deux Mers do take a toll on a boat. It won’t only be repairs taking place. Living on board full time soon allows you to see how things can […]

The Prop is On

The prop is on and Gratis back in her berth.

Back on the Slip

The prop returned yesterday. Gratis is returned to the slip way today at 10am, where the prop will be returned to its pride of place. At this stage, with another bout of bad weather coming through, our departure won’t take place until the weekend.

The Prop

Work on the prop will be completed today. Touch wood, it will arrive back here by next Monday/Tuesday. The season is a ticking on: weather won’t get better in this neck of the woods.

Back to Work

We are back to work today. No matter where you are, the washing must be done. The pic another one from yesterday at La Cite.

Stove Replacement

The gas burners on our old stove had been playing up for quite some time: to such an extent one would regularly want to heave it overboard. A few weeks ago, Bob happened to overbalance in just the right spot. Grabbing hold of the oven handle in order to regain his equilibrium, the handle broke […]

The Outdoor Helm has been Moved

We moved to avoid the heat of the sun this afternoon and met some more Aussies who own the canal boat you see in the pic above.   http://www.gratisaustralis.com/?page_id=2676   Tomorrow we depart Agen.
