A tram trip or two took us south of Amsterdam to Sloten.

Just loved the Molen Van Sloten and Kuiperijmuseum! Run by volunteers, our guide was a font of information.

This photograph was beautiful – my image of it doesn’t do it justice, but you get an idea.

This image shows the levels of Amsterdam in relation to the sea.

Schipol airport is situated in an area that was once part of Haarlemmer Lake. Nasty in storms, it was eventually reclaimed and the airport built. As in excess of 4m depth of water was drained, a multitude of shipwrecks were discovered. It is from those ships that the airport’s name is derived: ‘Ships’ Hole’
