After a quiet night’s rest it was time to go.

A beautiful motor – that included a short wait –

along a waterway in which a multitude of smaller channels and additional canals joined. Past that leading to Calais went Gratis – that’s for another year.

Oh yes!! The Frenchmen love their fishing.

The history of Arques is one linked closely to the water. In its early days, a mill was opened, but it wasn’t until the construction of the Neufosse canal that it came into its own with the creation of a glass factory. The opening of the factory saw the town’s population soar to 10,000 plus.

The marina in which we stayed was constructed on the site of the old shipyards.
