We visited the most beautiful country town of De Rijp this morning. Just a glimpse for you below. Situated in the middle of farming country, for anyone looking for that perfect peaceful place for relaxing, this would have to be one of the best. Small cafes, restaurants, a few B&B, waterways, history, some interesting museums, small boat […]
What a fantastic informative, interactive museum was this! The people were brought to life from the stories their remains told. There were even a few bones of extinct mammals: this was that of a mammoth. We also learned more about the formation of the landscape over the millennia. Once I have a moment to catch up, […]
Today BOb and I motored from Lemmer to Heeg. A short stop in the old walled village of Sloten provided us with the image above. Heading to Stavoren, which is on the coast of the Ijsselmeer.
After a pleasant couple of hours motoring, we are now in the small township of Heeg.
Today has been our last in the vibrant town of Sneek. One of the things we have learned during our stay in Friesland to date is: It’seems summer and it loves to rain!!!!!!!!!!! We have never seen so much and have discovered the constant pump out of water from this lowland country is not just […]
Waiting to see the start of a traditional Dutch barge race tomorrow arvo 🙂
Three weeks passes rapidly when you are enjoying life. Yesterday we dropped Terry at the railway station and headed out in the dinghy to explore the country side a little more. It really is exquisite. The photos are coming. This morning we are almost ready to depart Leeuwarden: just waiting for the rain to stop […]
We are only a few hundred metres from the sea lock at Lauwersoog in the Netherlands. It is from here that one can motor out to the Frisian Islands, then the North Sea. Beautiful country and so different to the nearby Ost Friesland of Germany. In between rain showers we made it out for a walk and found […]
Had a lovely motor through the centre of Groningen, followed by a delightful motor through farming country. It’seems quite different to Oster Friesland, Germany. Many low bridges required lifting and made for a relaxed saunter.
We have returned to Emden and refueled, ready for our departure to Delfzijl in Holland. Right up until the final hour, the weather was exquisite. How short lived: it’s raining once more!
Another easy day. At one stage, the air became a mass of black as two massive flocks of black birds took flight. It appeared as though they were searching for thermals. Without success, the hoard unexpectedly dove into the trees. It was quite a sight! The river banks became the drink and play area for a […]
After refilling the fuel tanks at the Minden Boat Club (97km mark on the left hand bank of the Mittelland Kanal when heading in the direction of the Weser). It took a while to sight, as the bowser is set upon a small red trailer. At last it was time for our trip upon the Mittel […]
We are still in Spandau, but that has given me a little more time to work out the details for the trip and ready more images. A bit tricky, as the internet data we purchase seems to disappear as quickly as a ‘click of the fingers’. Here is one for South Australians. In Meiningen, you […]
The 2016 Odyssey is still being installed and back – dated. Check out the ‘Our Journey Pages for Germany, Poland, Switzerland, and France to catch up on the adventure. Click on the tags in red below and you will be taken to the pages relating to the subject. It’s then just a matter of scrolling down and […]
How the last 7 months have flown! A flight from Brisbane to Singapore, followed by a day spent meandering the city’s streets. An uneventful 11 hour flight to Helsinki and we are now enjoying a warming cappucino as the sun shines through the window, whilst awaiting the final leg. This week, in between preparing Big […]
Well, here it is! With the aid of books by Tom Sommers (http://eurocanals.com/), the initial route planning options for our 2017 tour through northern Germany and the Netherlands is completed. By Car: Mecklenburg Lakes in first Gratis, then Little G2 Canal River Route Take 2 through the Netherlands. Take 3 Distances.
I have just completed planning our Thuringian Wald journey. The Mecklenburg Lakes will be played by ear once we get to Zehdenick. Probably a Little G cruise. Mecklenburg to Emden done and that for the Netherlands is almost there. We are on a role!!!! Now to work on some more pics.
I have commenced working through the Polish pics. Hopefully, will have the first online tomorrow.
